Have you ever experienced the despair of having your hard-earned landmark destroyed by your opponent? Especially when you have just started the game and have very few resources and Net Worth, having your hard-earned landmark destroyed is definitely a devastating blow.

Fortunately, however, there is a mechanism in Monopoly Go that can protect us from attacks by other players, and that is shields. Shields are a key item to protect our empire from intruders. Besides the regular shields that you steadily earn by playing the game, you can also change their appearance by acquiring new skins.

Here, we will briefly introduce the mechanics of shield use and describe how to obtain different shields, while breaking down all the sources of getting more shields in Monopoly Go.

What Are Shields?

Shields are an important resource in Monopoly Go. Using landmarks on your landmarks can prevent shutdowns. Shutdowns occur when other players attack your city and demolish your landmarks.

Successfully demolishing buildings will provide corresponding prizes to the invading players, such as cash and some Monopoly Go Cards. But there is always a defensive gameplay strategy we can use, and that’s where shields come in.

Players can protect their landmarks with shields, and players who attempt to destroy protected landmarks will have their attack trophies blocked, thus reducing their available rewards.

Note, however, that shields can only protect a limited number of landmarks, and each shield can only protect one star of every landmark it’s equipped on.

Additionally, there’s a limit to how many shields you can hold at one time. If you acquire more than five shields, the extra ones turn into dice. On top of that, you can only equip a maximum of three shields on a single landmark.

How To Get New Shields?

Shields are a valuable in-game resource, but acquiring them isn’t complicated. You can earn shields simply by playing the game. But here are the various ways Monopoly Go players can earn shields:

Landing On Property Tiles With Shields

You can replenish your shields by landing on board tiles marked with a shield icon, in case of a Shutdown. Each time you land on a block, your shields are replenished by an amount equal to your current roll multiplier. Any shields you gain above the maximum are automatically converted to dice, effectively refunding your roll.

For example, if you are short of two shields and land on a shield block with a x100 multiplier, you will regain both shields and receive 98 dice, making the actual cost of your roll only two dice instead of 100.

Complete Quick Win Missions

Completing Quick Win objectives is the easiest and most hassle-free way to earn different shields in Monopoly GO. These are in-game missions that players can complete earning a variety of rewards, including dice rolls, sticker packs, shield skins, and more.

Participate In Main Events

Players can also participate in events in Monopoly Go to claim a number of stylish shield skins. The game has a lot of events, and participating in these events and reaching milestones can help players win a lot of cool prizes.

Complete Albums Sets

Each season brings new Sticker Albums, and completing these challenges can earn you a range of rare rewards.

Note that some methods are not guaranteed to give you a shield. For example, some Albums have different shields, while others may not. Therefore, predicting where new shields will be in Monopoly GO is almost impossible.

To make sure you don’t miss any events, participate in as many events and tournaments as possible. Stay active and you will eventually come across a new shield that can be collected and added to your inventory.

Shields Skins

Since September 2023 update, players can get different Shields Skins. But note that Shields Skins are purely cosmetic and they do not change the functionality of the normal shields in Monopoly Go. But they are still nice as collectibles compared to the iconic shields seen in the game.

However, if you are a new player in Monopoly Go, you may have missed some Shields Skins. Most of these skins are only available for a limited time. You can get the vast majority of Shields Skins through seasonal events.

But don’t worry, these shields are purely cosmetic and do not give players any advantages over normal shields. Participating in Monopoly Go’s seasonal events and tournaments often rewards players with in-game resources, such as cash, free dice rolls, and partial skins.

What Do The Different Shields Skins Do?

As I said before, Monopoly GO Shields Skins is a stylish way to show off to opponents who try to attack you. They do not provide any competitive advantage and are purely cosmetic.

Regardless of which Shields Skin you equip, they all provide protection against a single Shutdown attack, similar to Standard Orange Shield. You can replenish them in the same way, though: by landing on a square marked with a shield icon.

You can view the shields you have in Shield Showroom through Monopoly Go app on Android or iOS. To learn how to enter Showroom, read the tutorial below:

1. Launch Monopoly Go app.
2. Click on Triple line in the top right corner.
3. Select My Showroom.
4. Tap Shield icon button, the one in the middle.

Alternatively, you can select the three shield icons at the top of the screen, which is a shortcut to the shield display in Showroom.
